Throughout the years I had many customers looking for the traditional pure white guayabera shirt.

Why white you may think? The Guayaberas are known for their comfort and their freshness in the tropical climates like Cuba or the Caribbean. Traditionally the guayabera shirts are made of linen and what better color to keep the shirt fresh than white? The white color guayabera or any other light colored shirt will reflect the light better than any other darker shirts.

A guide to selecting your favorite Guayabera. We know we like the shirt but it’s hard to choose a type of fabric or the style one should wear.

Like any other piece of clothing the Guayaberas should be bought with their final use in mind. After all it is not the same to be on a Caribbean beach on a summer afternoon or a night event in the north of the border. While traditional styles are made of 100% linen, there are other fabrics and blends that are also very practical and comfortable.

he following is a suggestion of fabrics and styles to wear depending on the use or type of event.

100% linen or Linen blends Guayaberas.
Great for tropical weather, light weight, Super fresh and elegant. Traditional Shirts for special events in the Caribbean and other Latin American countries. Makes an authentic gift and is the perfect destination wedding shirt. Recommended to be worn with linen pants.

100% Cotton Guayaberas.
Nice looking shirts, versatile, light weight and fresh. Take these shirts with you when traveling to Latin America or the Caribbean. Great for cruises, easy wear. Looks good even with jeans.

Poly/cotton Blends Guayaberas.
Wear them as day to day shirts, good as uniforms or in lieu of a t-shirt. Great shirts for a convention, family reunions, tradeshows or or any other event. These shirts are conform table, affordable and easy to care.

What is a Guayabera Shirt?

A Guayaberas is a tropical shirt worn by Men and Women alike. The shirt is worn un-tucked. The guayabera relaxed style makes it a unique type of shirt that tends to fit rather loose, with a boxy cut for comfort.

A guayabera is not just a shirt. You can expectt this shirt to be the most unique one in your wardrobe. The traditional style has two to four pockets, pleated panels on the front and back, and/or embroidery designs on the pleats for a decorative twist. Manufacturing Guayaberas requires almost double the time than manufacturing a regular shirt since there are so many additions and decorations on it.

Imagine a shirt with two pleated rows on the front each of these pleats is a tiny line of fabric swan very small and tight next to one another you will find these pleats in rows in the front of the shirt and in the back of the shirt. Most styles will feature at least two rows in the front plus four pockets and two to three rows of pleats in the back of the shirt. In addition to these the shirt also includes special shapes on the top and the bottom were the pleated row starts and ends.

These shapes depict a triangle and many believe these shapes are put in place to represent the triangular shape shown on the Cuban flag and the button on these triangles represent the lone star on the Cuban flag. (The guayabera shirt is believe to have originated in Cuba) The shirt also has a slit or side cut believed also to be in place to make it easy for the Cuban freedom fighters (mambies) to pull out their machetes in the Cuban independence war with Spain. The guayabera shirt could be short or long sleeve and nowadays is made of many fabrics such as Cotton, Cotton blends, Linen, Linen blends and other natural and man made fabrics.

The shirt’s best feature is its fashionable flexibility; able to pass for casual wear for a relaxing day at the beach, or an elegant, yet comfortable alternative popularly used for beach and destination weddings.

The Right Guayabera.

The Guayabera or Mexican Wedding shirt is always the ideal shirt for a beach, tropical, destination or outdoor wedding. Linen is the preferred fabric and the best fabric for the Guayabera because of its ability to absorb the heat. The right Guayabera can be a long or short sleeve linen one.

Should I have an authentic guayaberas custom made?

Custom GuayaberaWhen looking for a an Authentic Cuban Guayabera Shirt is not necessary to have it custom made. What we will do for you is get the measurements, color and fabric of choice, and we will most likely find you a perfect authentic Guayabera. If the Guayabera is in stock and depending of the location where it’s going, it could take anywhere from overnight to a few days. International would take a little longer.

The Guayabera or Mexican Wedding shirt is a very elegant and comfortable shirt. Ideal for destination and beach tropical weddings. It’s no longer just a traditional shirt to be worn by the Latin or Cuban culture. The Guayabera has been globalized to meet many needs of festive or corporate events.

My customer Jorge is not very computer literate, he admits:  ”I find it hard to find products online”.  He called me today with a “big problem”, he need it a guayabera shirt for his son’s upcoming beach wedding.

Jorge went to MyCubanStore.com but was unable to find a beige guayabera.  I directed him to the men’s guayabera section but  he was still confused because the shirts shown there “are not in beige” he said. That was when I realized Jorge was looking at the pictures without knowing you have to click on the item and later select the color.
