Designed decades ago for life in warm tropical climates, the Clergy Guayabera shirt has grown into an important cultural garment throughout Cuba, Mexico, and much of Latin America. These shirts combine comfort, tradition, and elegance while remaining practical for everyday ministry.

At My Cuban Store, our Clergy Guayabera shirts are available in both short sleeve and long sleeve styles. They are lightweight, breathable, and designed to keep clergy members comfortable throughout long days of service, especially in warm weather.

The Clergy Guayabera also helps strengthen the connection between priests, ministers, and their communities. Because of that, these shirts make meaningful gifts for clergy members and religious leaders.

Often referred to as a Clergy Panama shirt, this style features the traditional clerical collar, also known as a Roman collar or clergy collar.

What Does the Clerical Collar Represent?

The clerical collar serves as a visible sign of religious calling and service. It allows members of the community to recognize clergy regardless of denomination or background.

For generations, priests around the world have worn the clerical collar as part of both formal and casual attire. Traditionally, the collar appears as a narrow white band around the neck or as the familiar white tab visible through the opening of a black clergy shirt.

Some clergy members prefer the classic tab collar style commonly worn by Catholic priests. Others choose the full neckband collar, often associated with Anglican and Protestant clergy.

Both styles continue to symbolize faith, dedication, and service to others.

The Hybrid Collar Clerical Guayabera

One of the most unique features of our Clerical Guayabera shirts is the hybrid collar design.

This versatile system allows the shirt to work with either:

  • A tab clerical collar
  • A full neckband collar, also known as a dog collar

Because of this flexibility, clergy members from different Christian traditions can comfortably wear the same shirt style.

Additionally, the guayabera remains one of the most breathable and comfortable garments for hot climates. Its lightweight construction and relaxed fit make it ideal for summer services, outdoor events, mission work, and everyday ministry.

How to Apply the Full Neckband Clerical Collar

Using the full neckband collar on our Clergy Guayabera is simple:

  1. Locate the slit on the back of the shirt collar.
  2. Insert the small black pin from the neckband collar into the slit.
  3. Attach the front button through the perforation found inside the band collar.
  4. Wrap the collar around your neck.
  5. Secure the back of the collar with the pin.
  6. Adjust the collar until it sits comfortably and evenly around the neck.

Once secured in both the front and back, the neckband collar stays firmly in place.

How to Apply the Tab Clerical Collar

Applying the tab collar is also quick and easy:

  1. Button the shirt completely.
  2. Slide one side of the white clerical tab into the collar opening.
  3. Insert the other side of the tab into place.
  4. Adjust the tab until it sits centered and comfortably on the collar.

The result is a clean, professional appearance suitable for church services, ministry work, and formal occasions.
