Born on February 25, 1992, in Havana, Cuba, Jorge Soler built his path from local talent to international baseball success. As a young player, he quickly stood out for his power and discipline at the plate.
During the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship, Soler delivered an impressive performance for the Cuban national team. He hit .304, posted a .500 on base percentage, and recorded a .522 slugging percentage. In addition, he drew nine walks, one of the highest totals in the tournament. Cuba finished strong and earned the bronze medal.
Soler also appeared in the Cuban National Series for the Industriales (baseball team in the Cuban National Series).
Soler left Cuba in 2011 to seek a baseball career in the United States (MLB). In Haiti, he established himself as a permanent resident. On June 2, 2012, the Office of Foreign Assets Control unblocked Soler, giving him a free agent in MLB. Soler was a free agent who drew interest from several organizations.
Taking the Leap to the United States
In 2011, Soler made the life changing decision to leave Cuba and pursue a career in Major League Baseball. He traveled through Haiti, where he established residency. Soon after, the Office of Foreign Assets Control cleared him to sign as a free agent.
Because of his talent, several MLB teams showed strong interest. Eventually, he signed a nine year, 30 million dollar contract with the Chicago Cubs on June 11, 2012. Shortly after, he made his professional debut with the AZL Cubs and earned a promotion to the Peoria Chiefs. Across both teams, he hit .299 with five home runs and 25 RBIs in just 34 games.
From Prospect to Power Hitter
Over time, Soler developed into a powerful and consistent hitter. While his journey included ups and downs, he continued to refine his swing and approach. As a result, he became known for his ability to deliver in big moments.
Becoming a World Series MVP
Soler reached a defining moment in 2021 when he joined the Atlanta Braves. He stepped up when it mattered most during the World Series. Throughout the series, he delivered clutch hits and showed incredible power at the plate.
Most notably, his towering home run in Game 6 helped seal the championship for Atlanta. Because of his performance, Soler earned the World Series MVP award. His impact went beyond statistics, as he brought energy and confidence to the team when they needed it most.
