Who is Alexis Martin
My Name is Alexis Martin I'm a first-generation Cuban immigrant. I have a passion for everything in Cuba. I love sharing our culture and expertise on the world-famous Guayabera shirts.
On December 18, 2002, I sold my first Cuban Guayabera shirt online. I fell in love with the process of having a business. It wasn't long before I realized for it to work, I had to always be willing to learn. And always want to strive to over-deliver in excellence and care for your customers.
Since then, many things have changed as software services, and concepts have updated with the times. At MyCubanStore.com, we had been able to ride different market waves. We are always humbled and grateful for the privilege of building a future in this great country.
Perseverance and Hard Work will Always Pay Off!
I grew up in a small countryside town in Cuba, studying computer hardware with Russian mainframes. At the age of 24, I jumped on a raft (similar to this one) to leave my country, searching for a purpose. However, I was picked up by the U.S. Coast Guard and spent 13 months at Guantanamo Bay during the 1994 migration crisis. During this time, the U.S. Coast Guard was picking up Cuban Migrants (also known as rafters) at sea, taking them to Guantanamo Bay to be processed by immigration.
The time Alexis Martin spent at Guantanamo Bay was very uncertain. "I was unsure if I would be admitted to emigrate to the US. I tried to make the most of it by helping and improving on my personal growth."
Alexis Martin volunteered at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp for one year. During his time there, he worked as a translator, helping to communicate between the immigrants and the guards. He also took an advanced course in English and received many letters of recommendation for his work. He was a valuable asset to the camp, and his work made a difference in the lives of the immigrants.
Here are some specific examples of Alexis's work:
- He translated for immigrants who did not speak English, helping them to communicate with their camp guards.
- He helped to teach English to his fellow immigrants who wanted to learn the language.
- He helped to organize educational, volunteer work, and recreational activities for immigrants.
- He was a positive role model for other immigrants like him and helped them to maintain hope and optimism.
Alexis's work was recognized by his supervisors and colleagues, who praised his dedication, compassion, and professionalism. He received many letters of recommendation. Alexis's story is a testament to the power of volunteerism. He made a difference in the lives of the inmigrants at Guantanamo Bay and is an inspiration to us all.
Arrival at Miami
Alexis Martin arrived in Miami in November 1995. He worked in different jobs and was later hired to more professional positions, from computer support technician to phone tech support for a software company. In 1997 Alexis Martin started his private practice helping customers with their computer networks. Building custom-made computers and installing computer servers at my customer's business. More on my story here.

"
I had my first guayabera shirt when I was a child, having spent a few years of my early life living in Guantanamo. This shirt brought back fond memories of that first shirt. The material and tailoring are fantastic! The fit was ideal for me. I would gladly recommend Mycubanstore to anyone.

I had a wonderful experience here. I ordered 13 guayaberas over the phone in different colors and sizes for a corporate event. I was accommodated right away and was even able to meet the owner in a closer location for my convenience. Great quality and exceptional customer service. Would definitely recommend!

The great: The service and communication The good: Well made, super light linen with really well done details. ... The fabric is very fine and a darker colour is required to keep the public from seeing more of you than some people might be comfortable with. The Bad: My office still does not regard this superbly made shirt as office wear 🙁

A family Business
Of course, this was not only me. It's been a team effort since day one. None of the success I've experienced would have been remotely possible without the people around me.
My wife, Marta, has been my most generous supporter with her wisdom and a million bucks gut instinct! She is not only my partner in business, but she is also my partner in life, and I am absolutely grateful to have her by my side. I count myself lucky to be with someone who loves and supports me unconditionally through thick and thin.
We are very proud of the family we have created three wonderful young men and women. Raul and Alexito are already graduated from college. And our youngest daughter Carolina is now in her first years in college.
We have also had excellent employees all these years that have helped tremendously on the success of MyCubanStore.com.
