Balsero, Guayaberas y Telemundo

I want to thanks Telemundo for the interview they will air today at 6:30 in their Spanish television news.

On Wednesday, August 31, 1994, I left Cuba on an improvised boat from the Matanzas province in Cuba's central part. We were nine men with almost no provisions and no experience at sea. We encounter a terrible storm and almost die; we were turned back to Cuba and landed at a beach near Havana.
The next day only two of the original rafters tried again. This time we were picked up at sea by the US coast guard on Monday, September 5, 1994. The coast guard took us to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

I spent 13 months waiting to be processed and hoping to make it to the United States. I was finally allowed to enter this great Country in October 1995. Many of the Cubans who tried this trip did not make it. May their soul rest in peace.
I know the pain and sacrifice a family had to endure without knowing whether i was dead or alive.

Today I had an opportunity to share my story on this Telemundo interview. I was able to show what we were able to accomplish in this great country of ours, with hard work and sacrifice. I'm forever grateful to the US for allowing me to become part of it.
