Little Havana

The history of Little Havana is central to the South Florida experience. Little Havana has been shaped by people striving to make a better life for themselves and their families, from its early days as a residential suburb to its legendary status as a haven for Cuban Americans to its more recent position as a home to immigrants from Central America and the Caribbean.

It contributes to Miami’s status as a vibrant cultural destination. Calle Ocho, a lively street dotted with Latin-inspired restaurants, bakeries, cigar shops, art galleries, and music venues, lies in the heart of the area. It is also home to the famous Máximo Gómez Park, better known as Domino Park, where many people come to discuss politics over games of dominoes. The boulevard is adorned with murals and other works of art, such as mosaic tiles near Domino Park displaying iconic Cuban icons. One of the best ways to experience Cuban culture is through its food. Make a trip to the classic, family-owned Versailles or pay a visit to one of Little Havana’s other top Cuban restaurants. These restaurants sport little windows where you can order delectable treats on the go.

Little Havana’s arts and cultural scene are equally alive. Every March, the Calle Ocho Music Festival takes place in the neighborhood to celebrate Carnaval Miami, with big-name entertainers headlining the festivities. Little Havana has a lot to offer, whether it is local art and culture at galleries and studios like the Futurama 1637 Art Building and Molina Fine Art Gallery, or an indie film at the Tower Theater, which was built in 1926. The CubaOcho Museum & Performing Arts Center is one of the top live music venues in the neighborhood.
