The Guayabera in Media

Guayaberas are great for almost any event. Weddings, Parties, children's baptisms, first communions and BBQs are some of the most popular places to wear them. However, they can also be found in movies, musicals, and celebrities.

Examples of the Guayabera in Media

Jurrasic Park is one of the top examples of movies that utilize the Guayabera. The character John Hammond, played by Richard Attenborough, can be seen sporting a white Guayabera throughout the film. For those who are unfamiliar, the film tells the story of a wealthy entrepreneur who secretly constructs a theme park filled with living dinosaurs derived from prehistoric DNA. Before the park opens, he invites a team of experts and his two enthusiastic grandkids to experience the park and alleviate the investors' fears. The park, however, is anything but entertaining as the security systems fail and the dinosaurs escape.

Lin Manuel Miranda's original production of In the Heights also featured a stunning red Guayabera with white embroidery on it. In fact, it was supplied by our company. And although we no longer carry the product, we can still create something similar upon request. In the Heights takes place in Washington Heights, New York. A spectrum of dreams gathers outside the 181st St. subway stop, as well as a vibrant and close-knit neighborhood. At the center of it all is a charming and endearing bodega owner who dreams, fantasizes, and sings about a better life.

Ernest Hemingway in a White Guayabera

Ernest Hemingway was an American novelist, short-story writer, journalist, and sportsman. His economical and understated style strongly influenced 20th-century fiction. Hemingway wrote much of his work between the mid-1920s and the mid-1950s, and he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. He wrote seven novels, six collections of short stories, and two nonfiction works. As seen in the photo on the left,  we see him sporting a white long-sleeved Guayabera.   Hemingway and his new wife Martha purchased a property outside of Havana, Cuba, in 1940.  Staying there for the next twenty years. The Hemingways named the location Finca Vigia, which translates as "lookout farm." They lived with dozens of Hemingway's favorite cats, as well as trophies from numerous successful hunting and fishing adventures.
